Countdown Begins: Windows 11 21H2 and 22H2 Support Ending in Less Than 2 Months

Microsoft has issued a reminder that several editions of Windows 11 21H2 and Windows 11 22H2 will reach their end of support in less than two months, with the end-of-service date set for October 8, 2024. After this date, these versions will no longer receive essential security updates, putting systems at risk of vulnerabilities, and exposed to potential risks.

According to Microsoft,

The upcoming October 2024 security update, to be released on October 8, 2024, will be the last update available for these editions. After this date, devices running these editions will no longer receive monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats.

Why This Matters?

Once Microsoft ends servicing for a specific Windows version, security patches and bug fixes are no longer issued. This leaves systems exposed to potential cyberattacks, data breaches, and malware threats. Staying on outdated versions of Windows increases your business’s security risks. Upgrading to the latest version ensures continued protection and access to the latest features and performance improvements. Who Is Affected?

The announcement applies to Windows 11 22H2 Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstations, and SE editions, which were released on September 20, 2022. Additionally, Windows 11 21H2 Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions will also reach the end of service on the same day—October 8, 2024—exactly one year after the Home and Pro editions.

What Should You Do Next?

To keep your systems secure, it’s crucial to plan your upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11 before the October 2024 deadline. Windows 11 21H2 and Windows 11 22H2 will no longer receive essential updates, and newer releases of Windows 11 offer enhanced security features and performance improvements, ensuring better protection for your organization.
