SPAIN - Piano Suite software from Adventus is unique in it's vivid display of music and extremely effective feedback while the student plays the keyboard instrument. These features make the software very useful from a teachers perspective. You start by connecting the piano keyboard to the computer, usually through the USB port. When you're using the software, it feels like you're playing a game, except the learning methods are quite helpful in the real education sense, strengthening the sight reading, and developing a stronger rhythmic ability. These are processes that a teacher can never have too much help with, and this is why I recommend using Piano Suite in a beginner/intermediate practice regimen. The 700 musical arrangements in this software are so varied across different genres of music and levels of difficulty that students can always look forward to mastering an interesting piece at or slightly above their level. Piano Suite interactive software raises the quality of their practice, and makes practice more fun.
Aside from the different display / feedback / correction features which are utilized at different stages of mastery, the software contains a music theory resource which is an excellent interactive review for beginner and intermediate students. Students should visit this section frequently to keep their basic musical knowledge and skills up to par without consuming valuable lesson time.
In addition to learning features, Piano Suite Premier offers a composer editor, that can be used to enter music via the keyboard by playing it in, or by loading in a MIDI file. Once in the software, pieces can be edited and cleaned up, lyrics and illustration added, and they can be printed. All pieces in the software can be used with any of the learning methods to practice and perform. The composer / editor assists on the creative side, and allows Pro Art program material to be available at home for practice.
Let's not forget some of the skills that take time to develop. Piano Suite employs nine interactive games for this purpose, with several levels and settings that are used by the teacher to add variety and accelerate progress.
As if this was not enough, Piano Suite offers a good introduction to the history of music, with musical time-lines, movie music, and over 300 composer/performer biographies.
In summary, Piano Suite sets the standard for music educational technology, providing several years of regular use in the single title, a good value for parents. In contrast, books offer a more basic music selection, normally at a single skill level, with no feedback, and no creative component. Although Pro Art uses books, it's time to look past books, and consider more helpful tools.
Another advantage Piano Suite Premier is the Online instruction capability. Students can take a piano lesson online with a live instructor. Pro Art music schools will begin using this feature to make up lessons, and may expand to offer regular lessons in this fashion.
