Beginner to advanced students can analyze their musical intelligence in a strategy game!
- Understand the relationships between musical devices
- Prepare for the study of composition and harmony
- Levels range from beginner to advanced
- Genres "played" include classical, rock, jazz, polka/march, country, latin/caribbean, religious, and R&B
A game and a lesson all in one, MusIQ Challenger starts like a combination of scrabble and chess with each player placing letters (notes)
on the board. Players move these notes around to make musical patterns, scales and chords.
Over time, you begin to make better moves. Eventually, you can complete several musical patterns within a single move - then it's time to
move on to the next level.
The game addresses traditional barriers to learning music theory. Most students have good ears but their knowledge of music structures
is often under developed, making creating or reproducing music a struggle.
The game enables students to learn the connections between intervals, chords, scales and semitone building blocks since
each ‘move&rsquo parallels a musical relationship.
While improving their strategies, players become comfortable with musical labels and are constantly associating them with corresponding
sounds. Consequently, the recognition and construction of interval, chord, and scale motifs becomes effortless while playing their
instrument of choice.
At the advanced level, players decode a mystery selection of music selected randomly from several distinct genres.
