FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Halifax, NS (May 7th, 2007) -
A local firm’s after school music program is now enriching the lives of young students in 20 schools throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality and the South Shore. In one month, nearly 400 students have enrolled in Adventus Interactive’s new and innovative group music education program, MusIQ Club.
The program merges traditional teaching methods with award-winning interactive technology at a fraction of the usual cost – and it has been receiving rave reviews from students, parents and teachers.
Rafael Acolado is President of the Nova Scotia Registered Music Teachers’ Association and one of the many leading instructors Adventus has recruited to teach MusIQ Club classes.
“In 30 years of teaching piano, I’ve never seen anything this effective for teaching young students,” Mr. Acolado said. “I am convinced that MusIQ Club is a winning solution for everybody involved, especially the children.”
MusIQ Club is designed specifically for different age groups and abilities. The program’s interactive software listens as students read and play music. The program allows students to develop creative skills such as improvisation and composition. Instructors work with groups of students in the classroom and the same software can then be used by students when they practice at home.
“It’s great that someone finally gets it. Kids really love to learn this way,” said Greg Muzzatti, a parent from Mahone Bay.
Ian McKinnon, a professional musician and the MusIQ Club Program Director for HRM says: “MusIQ Club makes real musical development accessible for every family, and the kids have so much fun! It's going to be very rewarding watching all these children develop over the next few years,” adding, “We also plan to expand our program offering to adults in the near future.”
Researchers have long linked playing a musical instrument with improved language skills, math ability and problem solving, as well as better behaviour and attitude towards learning.
“Educators are keenly aware of the intellectual benefits that come with early instrumental music instruction particularly with piano programs,” says Anna Marie Sarto, Principal at Portland Estate Elementary School in Dartmouth. “I’m delighted to be able to provide the MusIQ Club program to our school community.”

About Adventus Interactive and MusIQ Club
Adventus Interactive was founded in 1996, in Nova Scotia, Canada, to realize the vision of bringing a new level of effectiveness and enjoyment to music education. Company founder, Jim Mullen, envisioned a company that made the best use of computers in education and whose products were accessible to everyone.
In 1998, Adventus unveiled Piano Suite Premier; a comprehensive piano learning software title that supplemented the learning process through immediate feedback while the student played. Today, Piano Suite Premier is published in four languages and enjoys worldwide distribution. As Adventus’ flagship product, Piano Suite Premier is the recognized leader in the field of interactive music learning and has been rated “Best in Class” by the Society for Technology in Education.
Over the past decade, Adventus has grown its product offerings to meet the needs of music education in innovative ways. Adventus' educational titles are used in schools, childcare centers, after schools programs, universities and homes around the world.
In 2006, Adventus launched an after-school group music program called MusIQ Club. Schools in Halifax and the South Shore of Nova Scotia are enjoying strong attendance with close to 400 students in 20 different elementary schools. Adventus is actively expanding MusIQ Club to geographic regions throughout North America.
MusIQ Club students learn with Adventus software programs like Children's Music Journey, Piano Suite Premier, Ear Training Coach and MusIQ Challenger Game.
MusIQ Club software provides the opportunity for group piano classes to students of any age, reducing the cost of music education and making the process fun, easy and effective. Each of these products provides a unique combination of technology, pedagogy and content that sets Adventus apart from other publishers.
Adventus promises to continue to set a new standard in the development of software that improves the music learning process.
